I think most people do not realize the prevalance of fungi that are hidden all around us; even in unaccomadating weather. (Like mushrooms that thrive in snow).

They are also very helpful to provide a quick idea of how polluted or clean the local environment. If an area has only crustose lichen and no bushy kinds, the air quality is probably very poor.
So the goal of this is to bring awareness of the types of fungi in the eastern U.S.
