The goal of this project is to determine the historical versus current distribution of woodchucks or groundhogs (Marmota monox) populations in the state of Georgia. As there have been unverified reports of woodchucks’ distribution expanding in Georgia, we feel an update to the status of woodchucks in Georgia is warranted at this time. Since woodchucks can be considered a pest species when they come in contact with humans, it is imperative that we understand their distribution in the state of Georgia. This is a student-driven, collaborative project between a student at the University of North and professors at the University of Georgia and Murray State University.
