This project was created to serve as a "supertaxon" that groups all sorts of parasitic wasps in a single place.
With so many parasitic wasp observations stuck at Apocrita I felt that it was necessary to somehow group them so that they can be accessible to anyone who wishes to identify them or just needs Parasitica observations for any reason.
As a traditional project, observations must be added manually. The project is open to everyone so if there are any observations that you think belong here, please feel free to add them. There is no taxa restriction other than it must belong to Insecta (In many cases wasps are misidentified as flies or other insects). However, the observation must show the wasp itself in any life stage. Things like holes on wood, galls, etc. should be added to a more appropriate project.
This project specifically is meant for America to make it more manageable. Projects for other regions and an Umbrella project may be created in the future by the admins or any other user who wishes to do so.
Parasitica* as defined by BugGuide.net:
Superfamily Ceraphronoidea
Superfamily Chalcidoidea
Superfamily Cynipoidea
Superfamily Diaprioidea
Superfamily Evanioidea
Superfamily Ichneumonoidea
Superfamily Mymarommatoidea
Superfamily Platygastroidea
Superfamily Proctotrupoidea
Superfamily Stephanoidea
Superfamily Trigonaloidea
*Excluding Megalyroidea as it is not found in the Nearctic
On iNaturalist's taxonomy this translates to:
Superfamily Ceraphronoidea
Superfamily Evanioidea
Superfamily Ichneumonoidea
Infraorder Proctotrupomorpha
Superfamily Stephanoidea
Superfamily Trigonaloidea
Other Apocrita with a parasitic life cycle that don't fall under Parasitica (But are allowed in this project, preferably in pupal/larval stage or if their identity beyond infraorder is unknown):
Superfamily Chrysidoidea
Family Dryinidae
Family Mutillidae - Only ectoparasitic species
Family Pompilidae - Only ectoparasitic species
Family Rhopalosomatidae
Family Scoliidae
Family Sierolomorphidae - Biology unclear, suspected to be ectoparasitoids of other insects
Family Thynnidae
Family Tiphiidae
