This kangaroo rat was captured by scientists at Joshua Tree National Park and was released.
Assuming this is a desert kanagroo rat based on range. I did not get to see the tail well.
Trapped in the vicinity and IDed by Dr. Jim Patton. Lost a bit of the end of its tail in the trap.
The fur colors & pattern are surprisingly similar to a species of pet dwarf hamster (Phodopus roborovskii), which are from the deserts of central Asia.
