Collected in a drift net at a known locality, with a valid USFWS permit. Approximately 3 mm long.

These are stunningly beautiful beetles in real life. 😊

Identified to species using morphologic measurements

Found under a log.

A hint of red can be seen on the nape. Yellow-shafted subspecies has red on the nape. As it flew away I saw a white rump but didn't catch the underwing color.

A fairly common species on this 9000 acre ranch in 2000 and 2002.
