Showing its paired, curled egg sacs, protruding from its host, the nudibranch, Janolus fuscus. Although I. belciki occasionally infects other species of nudibranchs, including Triopha catalinae, at least on the Oregon coast it is by far the most prevalent in J. fuscus, infecting in some years over 80% of local populations. Scanned from a 35 mm slide.

In the 1st image there are two massive colonies; the one on the right was 1.33 m long, not bad for an intertidal sponge.

Near the center, the algae (?) with green stems and orange fronds. It is very small but very noticable, as the orange really pops under LED camera lights. The second photo is less cropped, for context.

9 mm long. Found as is on the underside of a low intertidal cobble. It was likely feeding on kamptozoans (entoprocts), a few of which are visible under the anterior end of the slug, with more out of focus in the background at center right.

Only the 2nd time I have found this species, and the first time in about 100 low tide trips to this site since 2002.

Common encrusting coralline algae, growing on exposed fossiliferous tiff rock forming shore platform and reef. Growing in exposed sites at low tide mark, usually under or near Carpophyllum maschalocarpum and Xiphophora gladiata. Very occasionally epiphytic on Carpophyllum.

I think so anyway. Growing on sand at low tide mark. Associated with much larger Myriogloea intestinalis and Ulva sp. (1). Differing from Myriogloea by finer more heavily divided brown to amber brown thallus. Thallus divisions up to 5 mm diameter, surfaces not very mucilaginous and only sparingly hairy (more hairy toward bases)

It's rare to find Phycodrys rubens in full fruit. These are very fertile fronds showing the detail of antherid on the lobed fronds.
The internet is usually the place to confirm much of what we find but it is lacking illustrations depicting and text describing the fertile tetraspore formed in oblong or liner marginal sori found at the apices of the lateral veins - that's what we see. But these are unusual fronds, not at all like the ones commonly found and after which the rather inappropriate name Sea Oak comes.
One will see that I frequently use a light table for my illustrations. In the field I might use my Cell-phone or Tablet (loaded with two special apps) but each device requires a darkened place to take full advantage. I often use the back (trunk) of my car
