Saw this individual last year, but this time I was actually in the water with it. Quite an experience. It looks like its mouth wound has healed decently.

This is most likely a Bluegill (Lepomis macrochirus) x Warmouth (Lepomis gulosus) hybrid, but it might also have Redear (Lepomis microlophus) and Green Sunfish (Lepomis cyanellus) genes.

This population is protected and special permission is required to access the cave that this species inhabits. Specimen was safely released after photographing

The last fish of the day, a pumpkingill I caught using worm.

I caught 4 pumpkinseed, 1 green sunfish, 2 bluegill, and 1 pumpkingill from the pond today. I ended up taking pictures of all of them.

Hybrid Chain x Redfin Pickerel. Note intermediate snout length, teardrop under eye angling slightly back, retention of sort of chain-like markings, and reddish tinge on lower fins.

Redbreast x Green Sunfish hybrid. This combo is pretty rare in Connecticut.
