Clear-winged planthopper with bonus red mites
Identified as Salona panorpaepennis on Bowerbird by Liz O'Donnell: "Not a cixiid - note the distinctive venation around the wing edges."
Just after moulting. Interesting choice of location - out in the open on smooth timber fence post at chest height with no obvious cracks or crevices for concealment.
Looks like two beetles mating... but are they even the same species? Inquiring minds want to know...
Moving erratically - appeared to be trying to dislodge parasitoid wasp larva visible on abdomen.
A female Chaetophyes species - it has yet to attain any dark wing colouration. Chaetophyes nymphs begin tube-life early summer, overwinter inside, and emerge as adults around springs end. The nymphs obtain the calcium for tube construction from their high volume xylem feeding (Newby 1979).
Fluoresced brilliant blue under UV. Largest specimen I have found
ID? Bright yellow stink bug nymph, very small
Hundreds of individuals of this species were observed on resting on a stand of Pinus radiata trees close to surface rock with plentiful lichens. No mating behaviour or other interaction between moths was observed and the moths were generally spaced at least 30cm apart. A single individual of this species was sighted nearby four days earlier on 8 April.
not mating, as I first suspected,
Many spotted flower chafers were seen, some mating at Cardinia Res. Vic

End of a mating flight - wingless (dealate) sugar ant queen
Identified as Camponotus consobrinus on Bowerbird by Liz O'Donnell: "Species ID based on the distinctive orange-brown band around the gaster. Note also the evidence of wings - this is a queen that has lost her wings."
Species? End of a mating flight - winged male bullant
Identified as Myrmecia on Bowerbird by Liz O'Donnell
Dozens found digging out of/into mud at the edge of a dam. Very small (approx 0.5cm long) with unusual short, stubby antennae and bulbous head. Dark brown but subtly mottled with metallic green tints showing in some photos.
Crane fly of some kind, sorry no clear shot of the palps but some unusual features - pale thorax with dark transverse stripes, clear wings with smoky staining along veins, honey coloured abdomen that is very long, slender and pointed.
Late instar, found head down on Kunzea ericoides (burgan) as in final photo (photo 3). Very hard to see until it began moving as in photo 1, for detail of underside see photo 2.
Snapped just 6 steps from the front door
Identified as Aquila Uroaetus audax on Bowerbird by Liz O'Donnell
Found when the object it was sheltering under was moved. Not aggressive or fast, just walking at a steady clip in search of new shelter.
Snipe Fly
Identified as Geron on Bowerbird by Tony D.: "These are Geron - both sexes. The female (1st pic) is at least a Geron (Plichtamyia) sp. by the white scale patch on the frons, though Bowerbird doesn't have the subgeneric level in this case."
Slender Bee Fly - Geron sp. Brisbane
Identified as Geron on Bowerbird by Reiner Richter: "beefly"
Geron: Slender bee-fly
Identified as Geron on Bowerbird by Daniel Heald: "Small, slender bee flies."
ID? Small tiger-striped millipede
Identified as Paradoxosomatidae on Bowerbird by Ken Walker: "I asked Bob Mesibov if he could provide an ID and this was his reply: "Sure: new genus, new species (Polydesmida: Paradoxosomatidae). It's a mature male in a size class that doesn't fit any of the described NSW genera. I've collected things this small closer to the coast in NSW, but they don't have the transverse banding. If only this wasn't just an image, and the male had been collected and put in ANIC or AM...". Liz -- any chance you could collect a specimen for Bob? (:->!"
Species? Watching me watching you (bullant version)
Identified as Myrmecia simillima on Bowerbird by Kate Sandiford
Species? Spittlebug tubes fully attached to stem of juvenile gum
Identified as Clastopteridae on Bowerbird by Liz O'Donnell
Genus? Spittlebug tube, pure white and mostly freestanding on canopy foliage
Identified as Clastopteridae on Bowerbird by Liz O'Donnell
Species? Banded beetle with feathery antennae
Identified as Macrosiagon on Bowerbird by Liz O'Donnell: "ID based on the unusual features of this beetle including wing exposed by "tailcoat" shape of the elytra, and the feathery (plumose) antennae. An ID confirm (and if possible species name) would be great given that most photos for this genus seem to be fairly elderly museum specimens."
Rabbit skull retrieved from flooding creek
Identified as Oryctolagus cuniculus on Bowerbird by Ken Walker: "Our curator of mammals, Dr Kevin Rowe, made this ID and made this comment: "Notice the two pairs of overlapping upper incisors, which define lagomorphs. Marsupials would have more upper incisors (3 pairs in most macropods) and would not be overlapping. ""
"You shall not pass!" Determined dragon in the driveway
Identified as Pogona barbata on Bowerbird by Liz O'Donnell: "Classic presentation."

Identified as Uraba lugens on Bowerbird by Liz O'Donnell: "Known from nearby sites."
ID confirm pls: Red woolly bear with pair of red pencils behind head
Identified as Chenuala heliaspis on Bowerbird by Liz O'Donnell: "Classic "woolly bear" with pinkish fur, greyish dorsal line and a pair of dark red pencils behind the head with a pale spot between them. Large head with dark red face bisected by yellow stripe. Colouring is a good match for a late instar of Chenuala heliaspis, but it does measure around 6.5cm compared to the 5cm maximum caterpillar size given on the Butterfly House website."
Bee-fly with swirly yin-yang style markings on wings
Identified as Balaana abscondita on Bowerbird by Ken Walker: "Trying to get this ID to the top of the list for ALA to pick it up. Ken"

White parasitoid on tiny eucalyptus sapsucker
Identified as Epipyropidae on Bowerbird by Liz O'Donnell: "The larvae of this family parasitise Hemiptera, and they are "white and globular" according to the Butterfly House website. I've also considered the possibility that it could be a Dryinidae wasp larva but am inclined to discount that ID as Dryinidae larave are usually dark brown (not white)."
Species? Tiny brown wasp lurking on mantid egg case
Identified as Torymidae on Bowerbird by Liz O'Donnell: "The location on a mantid ootheca suggests Torymidae family, possibly Podagrion genus? An ID confirm would be great as there are no photos of the genus on ALA."
