Under mature hard beech (Fuscospora truncata) forest. Sarcodon carbonarius also nearby. Posting this observation because I have become aware of the conservation status of this species. I hope I am on the right track with this ID. Have not seen it since 2017.

Under lowland black beech. These were coming up in a cluster from the ground. Caps up to 100mm across. No milky exudate though. Do not change when bruised. No particularly distinctive smell. Gills huge, coarse, distant. Have been puzzled by these.
