Thanks to a post by @greenscenery with ID input from @trinaroberts, I have some suspicions that this is a fly larva. Preying on the aphids. What is odd to me is that the carpenter ants seemed to ignore it. They walked right by it and over it. These ants are pretty aggressive and defend their aphids. So, why ignore the larva? I didn't see the larva move while I was watching. Maybe the ants had disabled it? Or maybe it was playing possum while the ants were so close?

Went to watch Allen Chartier band a female Rufous Hummingbird that had been coming to a feeder near Sugarcreek. He set up a feeder in a cage, captured the bird, measured it, weighed it, photographed it, but he did not have to band it, as it was already wearing a band that Allen had placed on its leg the year before at this same location. Then the homeowner, Mr. Yoder, held it in his palm until the bird flew away. It visited the feeder again about a minute later.

iNat's system doesn't recognize hoverfly larvae very well. This one has an interesting pattern.

Part 2: Found this one focused shot of the hummingbird among my kingbird photos. The camera did that on its own! I was totally intent on photographing the kingbird and never noticed the hummingbird until I downloaded the photos later.

Threw off one quick careless shot at a 'bumblebee'. Kicked myself repeatedly when I uploaded the photo and took a good look. Haven't seen one since. I think it may be flavipes but not certain.

A half dozen or so Blue Jays have been working steadily and efficiently for days to strip acorns from a Pin Oak tree. They fly into the tree and knock them down, then drop down and fill their crops. A large flock of grackles showed up and took over the acorn recovery. The Blue Jays used their hawk imitation to back the grackles off briefly, but the grackles weren't fooled for long. The jays also shifted operations to the other side of the tree, again with only partial success. Then I heard another type of bird cry. Possibly a real raptor, because all the birds cleared out. (See observation 63293732 for the grackles.)

Not sure there is enough here to get down to species. But what an excellent carpenter bee mimic!

I still don't know what this is. But I feel strongly it is that same as in a previous post. The nested white arcs at the front of the abdomen and the spotting are the same. Both tiny jumpers. Just can't match it

Would love to know what this is. A big monster. Something flew past me and I had no idea what it could be, but I spotted about where it landed and went looking. The fact that it was carrying the Silver-spotted Skipper was what had made it so confusing in flight. It looked at me for all the world like a dog with a bone: "Mine!". I can't get closer than 'clubtail'. Never saw one before or since.
