Basing ID per the Sally Carson book on NZ seashore inhabitants. Can add more pics if needed, spotted these things at 2 locations in Kaikoura region.
I was so focused on keeping up with the squid to get the photos, I didn't notice I interrupted the poor thing in the middle of a meal. I find it fascinating you can see the swallowed fish head inside the squid.
Small green fish. Caught near with a lure when snagged by sea weed.
possibly Forsterygion flavonigrum? Looking for an ID for the Reef Life Survey database. I described it as a "yellow tailed blenny" in my notes
Doesn't look like it was tossed here by a fisheman - the location is relatively inaccessible.
