Riley's 13-year Cicada - Magicicada tredecim
Location: Durham NC (USA)
Update. As noted by a commenter below, this is a female--no singing organs (tymbals) on the underside.
I've seen a few shed skins over the past few days, and this morning a number appeared in my neighborhood. Although this is also a time of 17-year brood emergence in many areas, I have seen only the 13-year brood XIX in Durham (1998, 2011, 2024). I think some of the 17-year broods occur to the north and west of the Triangle, but not in Durham.
