Had tiny wings and didn't smush when I pressed my finger onto it because of how hard the body was. Observed it for about five minutes and it only walked. Ant? Beetle? Not sure.
I think that's a Solomon's Seal leaf it's on, if that helps with scale.

Not a typical cylindrical gall. Many of these growths close together on stem, each with a pupa.
Having trouble keying this out. Eyes hairy, can't see it in photos. Maybe Belyta?
