Which City in Louisiana Can Find the Most Nature?

Last year, the Southwest Louisiana Master Naturalists organized Louisiana's first City Nature Challenge. We held our own against much larger cities, and we had a blast doing it! It was a little lonely being the only city in Louisiana participating in the challenge though!

We'll participate in the CNC again in 2019, but this year we'd like to find out which Louisiana city can find the most nature! If you'd like to help organize your city's effort, sign up for an upcoming conference call with the City Nature Challenge organizers. Learn more.

Anyone can organize a City Nature Challenge through your connections in your area regardless of institutions/organizations. I'm tagging the top iNat observers in LA and some select ones in various cities that I know. Feel free to tag others you think might be interested!

Thanks, Irvin! I plan on calling in for the information. I don't think Baton Rouge is ready this year, but my goal is 2020!!!

I've already volunteered for the New Orleans challenge. I have the first call next week.

It was a blast, and SWLA is going to bring it again next year!

If Lake Charles is ready, I guarantee any other city in the state is...

@amberenergy and @terrapinjoe glad ya'll are calling in! I saw someone else from New Orleans on the call list too. Since this message, I've spoken to several members of the CenLA (Alexandria) Master Naturalist chapter. They're really interested too! And a master naturalist chapter in Minnesota contacted me to see how we did it last year. Just to echo @Robjamax, if Lake Charles could do it last year with no institutional support, any city in Louisiana can take on the challenge! We were just a bunch of dedicated naturalists making a bunch of observations and organizing a few nature-finding events.

@feistyone I know! I just wanted to keep you updated since you've made so many observations in Lake Charles over the past few months. :)

@kgardner No worries! Our City Nature Challenge area last year included Vernon Parish, so your observations there would count for our effort. If Alexandria gets in on the challenge, you might be able to contribute to both! I don't know anyone on iNat at Fort Polk either though I see a lot of observations from around Dr. Charles Allen's place in Pitkin from time to time.
