Schizophyllum commune

The species of my observation I’m choosing to do my journal entry on is Schizophyllum commune. Its kingdom is Fungi, the division is Basidiomycota, class is Agaricomycetes, the order is Agaricales, family is Shizophyllaceae, the genus is Schizophyllum and its species is Schizophyllum commune. All the fungi I found were in hard-to-find damp places, they were not out in the open. This is because all these fungi depend on moisture in order to show their protruding fruiting bodies. All my fungi were also decomposers. The Schizophyllum commune commonly referred to as split gill mushroom is unique in its structure to the other mushrooms I observed. Its gills are uniquely longitudinally divided on the underside of its cap. The Schizophyllum commune is also unique to the other mushrooms as it is the only one widely used in the medical field.

Acer Saccharium

The species of my observation I’m choosing to do my journal entry on is Acer Saccharium. Its kingdom is Plantae, the phylum is Tracheophyta, class is Magnoliopsida, the order is Sapindales, family is Aceraceae, the genus is Acer and its species is Acer Saccharium. All 132 species of maples except for one area in the northern hemisphere and they all except for one have the distinct palmate leaf structure. Acer Saccharium (sugar maples) is the main source of maple syrup!
