Port Aransas CBC 2021-12-20

I was excited to participate another year in the Port Aransas Christmas Bird Count on 12/20/2021. I covered the Aransas Pass area again which includes parts of San Patricio and Aransas counties. This year for the first time I was happy to be joined by Aaron Evans, Aransas Pass resident and birder.

Highlights included seeing, all in the same couple minutes, 3 soaring Red-tailed Hawks, a migrating flock of American White Pelicans high in the sky, and 3 Crested Caracaras interacting in the air, clacking their bills, and even talon-grappling! Our bird of the day was this stunning Yellow-throated Warbler seen in a mixed-species flock near Prairie View Cemetery.

For this count I went totally eBird! Here's the Trip Report, a new feature they introduced recently for summarizing checklists.

Our bird of the day, this stunning Yellow-throated Warbler, was found in a large mixed-species foraging flock in a neighborhood by the Prairie View Cemetery. We will need to bird this area more in the future!
