Simple arista--I looked for plumose structure with binoculars and through my camera and confirmed the arista were not plumose.
This fly was feeding in the same flower patch as one or more Hiatomyia and they do look a lot alike, especially males. I haven't seen many individuals or species of either genus and don't know if these differences apply broadly, but this individual has black flagellae (vs. orange in this Hiatomyia feeding nearby) and brownish wings (vs. clear wings in the Hiatomyia). I also see thin and straight hind femora with long hairs on the underside (vs. very slightly enlarged dorsoventrally and with short hairs ventrally in the Hiatomyia), but these differences are subtle and may just reflect the angle of view; even if they are real, I'm not sure how broadly they apply either.

I think this is a Xylota but am not certain and wouldn't be surprised if it's a Chalcosyrphus.
