Root slender with reclining woody stems and in some plants some acting as runners with smaller roots forming at some nodes. Branches hairy, upright or some semi-upright. Leaves alternate, distinctly petiolate, subcordate and sparsely hairy on both surfaces and slightly lighter green below, flowers single or few-flowered, pedicel glabrous, wings violet above and lighter violet below, reflexed lobes violet with darker violet veins, base of crest and keel light green to pink and tops darker violet pink, rostrum light pink, sepals lanceolate, green with red tips, bracts lanceolate, hairy. Grows in full to partial shade, some in moist areas, riverine forest, N aspect, gentle slope.
