Stood in our front yard for a few minutes, looked around, then darted down the street. Many people out for a walk right now, bright out, etc.—not typical for our neighborhood though we know they are all around here.

The tail was banded, steel gray with darker gray or back. I watched it swoop down on and kill a Spotted Towhee in our backyard. I think it felt/sensed me watching from my living room, it looked right at me at one point. Once the SPTO was better in grip it took off with it towards Mitchell Park.

Unfamiliar with fungi but it looks similar. I did squish it and blackish/dark gray spores came out in a dusty fog.
