Descripción

An insect seen stationary on the leaves of a tree, about eye level off the ground in a nature park near other trees. The insect was about an inch in length, and very narrow. It displayed an orange color, and had six brown legs. It wings were also brown. Its head was smaller then the rest of the body. The body has a linear, rod like shape with a circular head. The black eyes are located on the sides of the head and are medium sized. Its legs are very thin and long, bent at an angle.

Distinctive: distinct antennae which are two separate thin, black structure branching out from the head. Dark wing color.

Descripción

Pine tree found in a nature park near other trees. It is a fairly tall tree, about 25 feet tall and had a brown trunk that was around half a foot thick. There are thin branches that extend out from the trunk, with smaller branches that extend out from these branches. These smaller branches are more thin and have have a pattern etched into them. It is bumpy /thorny with green needle like leaves extending out at the end. Also at the end, there are premature pine cones that are a light yellow color with a cone shape. A reproductive structure is pictured on the ground, the female ovule cone.

Identifying: The "broom like" arrangement of needles at the end of the branches which have a length which is around 5-11 in. The leaves come in fascicles of 2-3.

Range: Florida, West Indies, Guatemala, Honduras

An insect found on a trash can outside a college campus. Very small, around 5mm in length. It's body is a circular-dome shape, with two eyes towards the front surrounded by a white part of its body. Majority of its body is red and covered in circular, black spots. There is short antnennae. Its legs are shot as well.

Defining Characteristics: a red or reddish orange body with 18 spots, some can appear to be exaggerated or eliminated.

A part of Kingdom Animalia as a protosome.They display symetry and are invertebrates.

Geographic range: U.S. and Canada. Native to eastern Asia

Ant found on a wood railing in a nature park. Railing was above water in a moist area. Ant is about 1.1 cm in length. It has six legs with two long antenna attaches to its head. Its body is divided into three spherical parts, with the middle more elongated than the front and end. The end part of its body is a darker color than the rest. Its eyes are black and attached to the sides of its head, away from the antennae. There appear to be two pincers towards the front of its head.

Distinctive features: golden hair on legs shorter than those on body.

Moss found in Moist swamp area. It is growing on wood that may have fallen off of a larger tree. Its color varies, ranging from darker green to lighter green. The plants are erect and thin and make the shape of a rounded cushion. They are small/short.

Identifying: Plants shape looks like a curved cushion, which is short. Also the lighter color is distinctive of this species. The stems are less than l cm tall.

A medium sized bird that is primarily a light brown color with white feathers and a long, orange, curved beak. White underside and thin orange legs. About a foot and a half tall. Part of Kingdom Animalia as a Deuterostome.

Its defining characteristic is its prominent beak, which is curved downwards with a pinkish, orange color. As a deuterosome, its body also displays bilateral symmetry.

Fern found in a woody area on the ground. It is about 7 inches in height, with a stem and leaves attached in a horizontal fashion. Towards the top, the leaves get shorter, giving the appearance of an arrow head. The stem itself is very thin. The pinna have a thin rachis, which do not extend throughout the length of the leaf. The leaves become rounder toward the ends. The plant possesses green leaves and a brown stem as well as the several rachis.
