HYMENOPTERA: Winged insects, two pairs of wings, fore wings and hind wings similar in texture and structure, wings largely transparent, mouthparts not a piercing-sucking beak and situated at the front of the head, antennae conspicuous, wings with few veins and cross veins with larger cells, tarsi 5-segmented, fore wings larger than hind wings, abdomen constricted at base.

ICHNEUMONIDAE: Base of abdomen constricted, hind wings with 2 or fewer closed basal cells (suborder Apocrita), first abdominal segments without hump on node, antennae variable, wings fully developed, pronotum reaching back to tegula, venation complete or nearly so, fore wings with 6 or more closed cells and hind wings with at least one closed cell. Hind trochanters two-segmented, antennae with 14+ segments, fore wing with two recurrent veins, first submarginal and first discoidal cells confluent.

SCARABAEIDAE: Antennae with 3-8 distal segments very asymmetrically expanded, forming a well defined, one-sided, often lamellate club, front legs adapted for digging, the fore tibia flattened with teeth on the outer edge. Segments of antennal club thin, abdomen with six visible sternites.

MELOLONTHINAE: Labrum sclerotized, exposed, antennal club more than 3 segments, tarsal claws toothed at base.

Costelytra: Metasternal process absent, brown colour, metasternum longer than mesosternum, sternal surfaces with long silky hairs, alternate elytral intervals very narrow, non-punctate and raised as distinct ridges.

Xanthocnemis spp: Yellowish line on mesepisternum broad and with a distinct notch in the lateral border. Body length 30mm.
