Here is a Ruffed Grouse egg. The dark speckles are simple dirt, but it is an off-white, cream color. Do not worry, I am not an egg nabbed! While I was walking to my site location my dog found the nest, grabbed an egg and quickly ran off with it. Although she cracked the egg, I returned it to the location where it was found although I could not find the nest.

Although I couldn't find the flock, they were very loud somewhere on the other side of the pond I set up shop. The creek was too high to cross but they were most likely roaming around an old corn field that is about 100 feet through the woods on the other side of the pond.
