South Piha, rocks by the Ditch, in rock pool. I can't remember the exact date I found this (it rolled arounf in the centre console of my carfor a few months...). It's very rare to find any gastropod in one piece on this beach; this is the only whole punctulatum I've seen there in >25 years of looking.

Trawled off the Otago Coast, sometime in the 1960's. Sadly I don't have better data than that. Given to me by Kath Fletcher from Mt. Maunganui in the 1980's. She was elderly and I was a teenager.

Mid-tide, coming up through the sand at Pilot Bay, Mt. Maunganui. It can be readily distinguished from S. pyrum, by it's narrower shape and most particularly by it's columella shield, which is flattened and not warped outwards (as it tends to be in S. pyrum). Also, this is a northern species in NZ and is not found south of Mahia peninsular.
