The group of fish larvae on the center left are the intended submiasion here, the only ones that might be identifiable by the features the photo allows. Both the bigger larvae on the left, and the possible gunnel larvae on the right are too poorly photographed to separated into their own submissions.

First butterfly I have seen here this year I looked at past records here for Cal Torts, and of the dozen or so, they've all been April or earlier, or September or later.

The listed time here is when I took the photo of the sport print of the mushroom from the previous day. These mushrooms have been fruiting the last month growing, been in sub freezing temperatures , and began making spores about 3 weeks ago . They are growing mostly around Incense Cedar but there are also Doug Fir and Western White Pine in the area. They don't have any staining, and their smell was earthy. They have a viscid cap, that whem it freezes, becomes translucent.

This spider was on top of my mailbox two days in a row, before a lot of rain came. Same place. Very flat body.

The first photo was taken on January 4, 2024. The second and third photos were taken on January 2024. . They are all photos of the same mushrooms. They growing at the base of a hundred plus year old Incense Cedar. I don't know if their more frilly, deeper gilled appearance as they aged was caused by rain, or an inherent development in the species.

These have been growing a few places along a road Edge underneath incense Cedar faces. There was one that endured from about mid December until February 2nd. This is one that came up about 10 days ago.
