I am interested in woody shrubs and trees. I have a B.S. in forestry and M.F. in forestry and wood science, both from Northern Arizona University. I am working on a wood collection in the form of transverse sections, also known as tree "cookies". The rings are very interesting to me. I will never collect from every woody species in the world, but I think I can get one from every species in Arizona. I try and be as ethical as possible by getting cookies from private land owners, arborists, freshly fallen trees, trimming stumps, broken branches, etc, and never along established hiking trails.
