In 2017, I established a new Landcare group in Ipswich, Queensland, Australia - Springfield Lakes Nature Care (SLNC). Members of this group have been volunteering to plant trees to reduce sediment run-off & erosion, rehabilitating a remnant dry rain-forest that has rare species of flora & fauna & conducting a Citizen Science project "Platypus Watch". As president of SLNC I was instrumental in initiating these activities, along with organising litter clean ups in our catchment & encouraging people to reuse & recycle to reduce our environmental footprint. I have presented at the 2018 National Landcare conference held in Brisbane & hosted a number of environmental workshops. In 2018 I was awarded Healthy Land & Water's "Volunteer of the Year" and in 2019 I was awarded Ipswich City Council's "Environmental Hero" award for services to the environment.
I have written & published a children's book "Turtle needs Help" to educate children on endangered turtles & the impact of marine debris including plastic bags & helium balloons, has on them.
I like creating short video's on how to help our biodiversity in an ever changing world. Australia has such a diverse range of flora & fauna. I'm not the best photographer but I try to get an image of insects, frogs, fungi & flora because they stay still long enough for me to capture an image. I have a you tube channel in which I share some of SLNC's projects & wildlife.
