Hello, welcome to my profile! I am mainly focused on Porcellionidae, a family of Isopoda in the suborder Oniscidea; however, I am interested in every species of Crustacea. Feel free to @ me if you need help with an Isopod ID. If you would like to send me specimens that would be more than okay. Many Asellidae species can only be IDed under a compound microscope and have a possibility to be undescribed, especially Lirceus; just send me a message!
A little about me:
Nathan is a home-schooled high school student through Bridgeway Academy, taking advanced science classes through LeTourneau University. His future career goals include; genetics, ecology, and taxonomy, emphasizing understudied topics such as ocelli morphology and function.
He has experience with setting up and conducting: field, greenhouse, and laboratory research trials focused on vegetable, fruit, and grain production. Insect and mite damage identification, biological control, and the use of plant protection products in integrated pest management and crop production. He is skilled in taxonomic photography, Microsoft Excel, data collection, animal husbandry, species identification, and microscopy.
He is one of the American Isopod and Myriapod Group's seven co-founders. He manages and maintains all social media accounts for AIMG and is the lead editor for all publications. When he is not working on the betterment of AIMG you will find him here on iNaturalist. Nathan also assists Dr. Carlos and the APHIS team with many aspects of the huge trade of isopods. Including working on a revision of the terrestrial Isopoda distribution in the contiguous United States, and adding more species to their current list.
I am willing to collect specimens for research purposes.
All of the photos I post on Inaturalist were taken and edited only by me unless otherwise stated. Anyone can use my CC-BY photographs but a clear citation of the credit (needs to be Nathan Jones, not as @ blastcat, please) is always required. I would be happier if you could notify me in comments or by messages if you plan to use any of my photos; possibly I can provide a better photo.
