Having loved animals from a young age, I became a marine biologist to begin with and metamorphosed into a terrestrial scientist via temporary ponds. While hiking and butterflying/birdwatching (see eBird for observations) I can easily become distracted by invertebrates, mosses and lichens. Every semester, I take students on a field trip to False Point in San Diego which has led to a wealth of observations of rocky intertidal species in my profile as well. I currently teach biology at Grossmont College in El Cajon, CA and coordinate a student-centered research experience called the Roly Poly Research Project on the common pill woodlouse. Through this work I am becoming an expert on woodlouse biology. Learn more about them here: https://www.grossmont.edu/people/bonnie-ripley/roly-poly-research-project/roly-poly-fun-facts.aspx
