I love the out-of-doors and try to take pictures of everything living whenever I can. I've been an outdoor educator since 2006 which is right around the time I started seriously focusing on nature, especially birds. I graduated from Longwood University in Farmville several years ago with a degree in biology, concentrating in ecology and evolution. I've been working in Virginia State Parks since 2012 and was most recently the Park Naturalist/Interpreter/Educator at Holliday Lake State Park in Appomattox County, Virginia. As of December 2020, I'm currently the Visitor Experience Specialist for all Virginia State Parks in the south-central region. Certified Interpretive Guide, Certified Virginia Master Naturalist, Regional Coordinator for the 2nd Virginia Breeding Bird Atlas, Advisory Committee Member for Virginia's 2020 Wildlife Viewing Plan, and past Vice President for the Margaret Watson Bird Club of Farmville.

Starting in 2008 I took most of my pictures with a small Sony DSC-H10 Cybershot. I then used a Sony DSC-HX300 Cybershot from December 2014 to August 2016 (RIP). I now use an old - but reliable - Canon REBEL XT with an EFS 55-250mm lens for my nice photos. I purchased a Sigma 150-600mm lens in May 2020 to use with the old Canon; I'm liking it so far, but it's pretty heavy. I currently use a Canon 90D...that I'm still trying to figure out. All other photos are taken with my cellphone, and a lot of those are digi-scoped through my telescope (and rarely my binoculars).
