Developing a non-lethal Field Automatic Insect-Recognizer Device (FAIR-Device) at the Thünen Institut for Agricultural Technology.

Version 2.0 (operational from June 2022), consists of a video image module and a wingbeat frequency capture module through infrared light.

Both the best image captures and the wingbeat sounds (in case of flight within the device) are manually uploaded to the iNaturalist platform. It is planned to develop an automated system that performs this process automatically in the future.

Until such development is done, in an attempt to simulate the operation of this fully automated system, the suggestion that iNaturalist's AI system recommends the most is always chosen, even though it is known that this is not the correct/best ID option. If there is no single option as the most recommended, the ID given to the observation will be the highest taxonomic level that encompasses at least all the suggestions offered by the AI.
