I am a naturalist based at Sagawau Environmental Learning Center in the Forest Preserves of Cook County. My passion for insects was ignited in high school thanks to an amazing biology teacher and a project involving red flour beetles, Tribolium castaneum. Sagawau is an amazing place for adults, teachers, high school students, and families to develop and deepen their appreciation, respect, and stewardship of the Chicago region's ecosystems.

I am coordinating the Singing Insects Monitoring Program in the Chicago Wilderness area with Kathleen Soler. Inspired by the work or Dr. Carl Strang, our goal is to recruit volunteer monitors to record crickets, katydids, grasshoppers, and cicadas singing in forest preserves and all throughout the Chicago Wilderness area. Please visit the webpage: http://singinginsects.net/.

My other interests and passions include: restoration, Coleoptera, pollinator ecology,

Some of the books I would highly recommend include:

Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer
Locust: the Devastating Rise and Mysterious Disappearance of the Insect that Shaped the American Frontier, by Jeffrey A Lockwood
Bees: An Identification and Native Forage Plant Guide by Heather Holm

FICTION
Woman Hollering Creek by Sandra Cisneros
Kindred by Octavia Butler
