I became actively involved in herpetology at the age of ten and have maintained a passionate interest ever since.

At age twelve, I was fortunate to be mentored by Dr. Jim Layne of the Archbold Biological Station and was co-author of my first scientific publication at age 14. After high school I went on to receive a degree in Zoo Animal Technology and have worked in the zoo, aquarium and museum field since 1992. I held such positions as Senior Herpetologist with the Tennessee Aquarium and Collection Manager with the Chelonian Research Institute and have been involved in a variety of research projects with such species as Carolina diamondback terrapins, spotted turtles and Suwannee cooters.

I have a Master’s Degree in Museum Studies with research interests in conservation education, history of natural history, and reconnecting children and adults alike with nature. I am a member of the IUCN Tortoise and Freshwater Turtle Specialist Group, an avid outdoorsman, accomplished photographer, and book collector. My current position is Manager of Natural History Collections and Citizen Science with the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, Connecticut.
