At the risk of stating the obvious, the climate change catastrophe has begun. Trees are nature's carbon capture devices, and they have a significant cooling effect on local climates. The rabid advocacy for plantation eradication is akin to cutting off the nose to spite the face. Timber is used in the real world, as a substitute for carbon- and water-intensive mined/industrial products such as concrete and steel. If plantation timber sources are reduced or eradicated, we worsen the climate outcome. In that scenario, fynbos is also the victim.

Co-existence is possible.
