What Is A Carpet Beetle (Bug)?

The carpet beetle is a colloquial name given to a number of species of beetle classified in the Desmistidae family. Found all over the world, adult carpet beetles feed primarily on nectar from flowering plants. Their larvae feed on natural fibers and as such, are a common household pest species, frequently infesting and damaging clothes, textiles, carpets, and clothing.

Gardening: The fungus among us makes maintenance essential for good tree health.

When it comes to the spread of Fusarium dieback, a disease that infects more than 100 species of trees, the picture changes. There is a complex of three different Fusarium fungi involved in Fusarium dieback. Moreover, these fungi are not spread on their own but rather by a tiny symbiotic beetle know as polyphagous shot hole beetle, a type of ambrosia beetle, which is no larger than a sesame seed.

These gorgeous fake flowers are an oasis for tired city insects.

In 2017, a study found that in some parts of Germany, the entire flying insect population has declined by 75% over the last 27 years (a trend that has been demonstrated elsewhere). The shocking results moved the Dutch designer Matilde Boelhouwer–who put her skills as a designer to use to help feed insect pollinators in cities thorough a project called Food for Buzz. How? By creating artificial flowers of screen-printed fabric petals and 3D-printed plastic.
