SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) – People living in a Carmel Mountain neighborhood say they have noticed a significant increase in coyotes in their streets.

Kent Laudon, a wolf specialist with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, said he had his doubts about the information. First, news of that many wolf kills would have reached wildlife officials, and while the canines in the picture do look similar to wolves, tell-tale signs prove they're not, he said.
West Covina officials recently launched an interactive map that allows residents to report coyote sightings in their neighborhood.

Coyotes may be seen more frequently in coming weeks, because this is near the season when the animals den up and give birth to pups. At that time they become more protective and territorial.
