Diario del proyecto EwA City Nature Challenge 2021

Thanks to all who joined! What a great Bioblitz week this was!

What a week! The 2021 City Nature Challenge (CNC) observational period is over and EwA was out there recording a lot of the biodiversity of our urban landscapes! The EwA observations dataset is > here , and the records of all observations from the Greater Boston area are > here.

⭐ Impressive results with more than 23,880 observations from about 1,745 observers, with our EwA and friends team having collected 2978 of those observations (22 observers). The event gathered more than 1,229,508 records worldwide in the 4-day period of the challenge from about 51,793 observers! We made it to the top 60 (worldwide) for the number of observations, and the top 42 for the number of unique species. Quite a biodiversity celebration!

Thanks to all for incredible biodiversity records this week (including our CNC records)! - 3,498 observations total over 910 species! That is just amazing! Curious about the records that have been validated by the iNat community so far? > here.

Running tally: To date, we recorded 65,697 observations of 6,103 distinct species! Check our EwA umbrella project and see the details per site/observer & more... > here

There are so many wonderful records–too many to list–but here is one favorite: the endangered Blanding's turtle sighted by Dan > here

EwA Webinar Recap: CNC 2021 How-to & What to Expect to See [Slides and More]

It was lovely to have who could make it tonight. Here are the slides that we presented [Slides].

Here is the set of iNaturalist observations that I had selected for you > CNC 2020 Featured observations.

Here's the EwA Wildlife Documentation Essentials (How to document plants & wildlife for identification)

If you want to find our EwA iNaturalist 'Mother' project ('the project of projects'), here it is > the EwA Biodiversity Projects.

And to finish, if you want to get involved in any of the EwA citizen science projects because we do so much more than iNating (e.g., insect surveys, phenology, biodiversity mapping, habitat assessments, bird monitoring, etc.) watch & read more > here.

Enjoy the City Nature Challenge, and see you all soon!

Cheers, - Claire & the EwA Team

When: Tuesday, April 27⋅8:00 p.m. ET | Who: EwA Initiative | Register for free here

We’re getting ready for the 2021 City Nature Challenge! Learn how to observe and record urban biodiversity and make it count!

Between April 30th and May 3rd, hundreds of cities worldwide will be celebrating Nature and gather observations of species found in our area with the help of all who want to participate in the worldwide 2021 City Nature Challenge (CNC). Such events are known as Bioblitz events.

Here we show how to 'iNat' (using the iNaturalist app in the field) and what you can observe in the Greater Boston area at this time of the year. You'll also learn how to protect species and habitats while you're documenting them.

Join us! It's fun and insightful. It's a great opportunity to connect with nature, deepen wildlife ethics, and help science while getting to learn about our communities and their biodiversity!
