September 11 - !!!Asemosyrphus/creation of a dichotomous key

We're happy to announce another online meeting! This one I think you all will enjoy a lot. Here are the details:

A couple of weeks ago, I examined specimens of Asemosyrphus at the National Museum of Natural History fly collection and determined new consistent characters that I could use to make a visual key to the Asemosyrphus of the Americas. Since I already have the characters, a major part of the key-making process is done, and all that is left is to actually create it. So, this Sunday I will be creating this key live so that all of you can learn the process and also learn how to identify these flies at the same time!

Just as a reminder: our meetings are entirely informal, and everyone is invited to speak their minds and ask questions to the group. Participation is key to learning!

Please leave a comment either to let us know if you're planning to come or to subscribe to be notified of future events! Questions are also welcome.

The Zoom meeting will open at 8 PM EDT on Sunday the 11th.

September 18 - Asemosyrphus cont'd

We're happy to announce another online meeting! This one I think you all will enjoy a lot. Here are the details:

This week we'll start off by looking back at the key to Asemosyrphus that I started last week and finished last Monday! Next, we'll review the identification of Asemosyrphus species just because we can, and look at some similar genera and how to distinguish them. If we have extra time, which I think we will, I'll be looking for requests for future meetings!! Please come prepared with some ideas if possible.

Just as a reminder: our meetings are entirely informal, and everyone is invited to speak their minds and ask questions to the group. Participation is key to learning!

Please leave a comment either to let us know if you're planning to come or to subscribe to be notified of future events! Questions are also welcome.

The Zoom meeting will open at 8 PM EDT on Sunday the 18th.

September 25th - Condylostylus longicornis (again!!)

We're happy to announce another online meeting! Here are the details:

This week we'll be going back to our roots - Condylostylus! Last time we looked at these flies was December 2021, so we're due for another shot at 'em. Condylostylus longicornis is the most common species in the Southern US, and also the most misidentified. Our main goal this week will be to work down the number of needs ID observations of the species.

Just as a reminder: our meetings are entirely informal, and everyone is invited to speak their minds and ask questions to the group. Participation is key to learning!

Please leave a comment either to let us know if you're planning to come or to subscribe to be notified of future events! Questions are also welcome.

The Zoom meeting will open at 8 PM EDT on Sunday the 25th.

Hi everyone,

Due to unforeseen circumstances, our workshop this Sunday (the 25th) will be moved to next week, October 2nd.

I'm sorry to switch up on you, as I know many people were looking forward to this. Hopefully, you'll be just as excited in a week! ;)

Thank so much for understanding.
