Er zijn 450 Otters in Nederland en elk jaar wordt een derde, 120 dode Otters doodgereden. In Friesland in 2019 werden 53 Friese otters doodgereden en in 2020 ongeveer 60. De meeste Friese otters sneuvelen op de A7 en de A32.

Een jaar geleden veegde de Afdeling bestuursrechtspraak van de Raad van State het PAS (Programma Aanpak Stikstof) van tafel. Dat betekende de start van de stikstofcrisis. Hoe gaat het nu, een jaar en een virus verder, met deze crisis? Gooit het coronavirus roet in het eten of gaat het juist beter met de stikstofuitstoot? Francina vraagt het aan de Wageningse professor Wim de Vries, die onderzoek doet naar de effecten van stikstof.

Update 13 mei 2020: In deze video zeggen we dat de Hoge Raad het PAS van tafel veegde. Dat is onjuist. Dit moet de "Afdeling bestuursrechtspraak van de Raad van State" zijn.

Gaat het in de stikstofdiscussie teveel over boeren? En wat is er volgens Wim de Vries, hoogleraar Integrale stikstofeffectenanalyse aan de Wageningen Universiteit, nodig om de stikstofcrisis aan te pakken? 'De gevolgen van de stikstofcrisis zijn onomkeerbaar, het is geen 5 voor 12, maar 3 uur 's middags en de spelers hebben het veld verlaten', aldus Arnold van den Burg. Van den Burg is ecoloog bij de Stichting BioSFeer en hij zag meerdere diersoorten al verdwijnen uit ons landschap.

Hoe ziet de toekomst van de melkveehouderij eruit nu er maatregelen moeten komen om de stikstofcrisis tegen te gaan? Marion Logtenberg is bestuurslid van de Nederlandse Melkveehouders Vakbond en samen met haar echtgenoot runt ze een melkveehouderij. Kan Logtenberg's zoon straks het bedrijf nog overnemen?

Hoe ziet gedeputeerde Peter Drenth de toekomst van het boerenbedrijf in Gelderland? En hoeveel armkracht heeft de provincie om de stikstofuitstoot tegen te gaan?

    Welzijn van de mossen in het IJssselbos

    Vandaag heb ik een aantal berichten gekregen van een bryofiel die zich zorgen maakt over het welzijn van de mossen in het IJsselbos en de zeldzame mosjes in het bijzonder. Bij het vinden van het bijzondere mos dacht ik dat het om een in het oosten van het land vrij gangbaar mos ging dat nieuw was voor de onze werkgroep.

    Omdat het een nieuw mos voor de werkgroep is er door iedereen een stukje verzameld. Helaas bleek achteraf de determinatei niet te kloppen en was het een heel zeldzaam mos voor Nederland.

    Dat spijt ons als werkgroep heel erg dat we alle andere mossenliefhebbers van het IJsselbos nu niet kunne laten genieten van de volledige mos maar van een kaalgeplukte stam.

    TB2021 1 22 PFE voorjaar 2021 biodiversiteit foto Eward Timmerman kleinOp 21 april organiseert het Platform Funerair Erfgoed bij de Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed (RCE) om 14.00 uur een webinar over (de bevordering van) biodiversiteit op begraafplaatsen. Biodiversiteit staat wereldwijd onder druk. Daar waar mogelijk moeten pogingen tot herstel of bevordering ondernomen worden. Begraafplaatsen kunnen hier een rol in spelen. 

    Het zijn vaak groene oases in een stedelijke omgeving of stepping stones voor planten en dieren in agrarisch gebied dat gedomineerd wordt door monoculturen. Wat is die biodiversiteit op begraafplaatsen, hoe kun je die bevorderen en hoe verhoudt dat zich tot de begraaffunctie en het aanwezige funeraire erfgoed? In vijf presentaties zal het thema vanuit heel verschillende zijden belicht worden, alle ook met aandacht voor beheer. 

    Het programma, duurt ongeveer anderhalf uur.  Deelname is gratis.  De bijeenkomst vindt online plaats; voor deelname is aanmelding noodzakelijk.

    Aanmelden kan via de website van de RCE (Rijksdienst Cultureekl erfgoed).

    Op weg naar betekenisvolle publieke betrokkenheid bij onderzoek

    De Europese Commissie en het Nederlandse kabinet hebben hoge verwachtingen van open science, zowel voor de wetenschap als voor de samenleving. Open wetenschap is volgens hen beter ingebed in de maatschappij en draagt meer bij aan het aanpakken van grote maatschappelijke uitdagingen. Bovendien zou openheid de wetenschap sneller en efficiënter maken.

    In deze beschouwing onderzoeken we wanneer publieke betrokkenheid bij wetenschap betekenisvol is, en hoe ze kan worden georganiseerd. Daartoe belichten we de (wetenschappelijke) gedachtevorming over de relatie tussen wetenschap en samenleving en de Europese en Nederlandse beleidsontwikkeling daaromtrent. Ook putten we uit drie domeinstudies die we eerder publiceerden. We presenteren praktische stappen voor beleidsmakers, onderzoekers en het publiek om publieke betrokkenheid bij onderzoek meer betekenis te geven.

    PvdADFM: Signalen van de korstmossen serieus nemen

    De PvdADFM fractie heeft het college van B&W van de gemeente De Fryske Marren schriftelijke vragen gesteld over een onlangs verschenen rapport over de reactie van de korstmossen op stikstof in Gaasterland.

    De uitkomst van het rapport maakt duidelijk dat de korstmossen, (symbiontische levensvormen van schimmels en algen) zeer gevoelig zijn voor luchtverontreiniging. Korstmossen vervullen als zogenaamde bio-indicatoren een belangrijke rol als natuurlijk meetsysteem. Opvallend is dat, met name in Gaasterland, een verdere achteruitgang van de stikstof mijdende korstmossen optreedt ten gunste van de stikstofminnende korstmossen. De achteruitgang van de biodiversiteit is waarneembaar. Dat wil zeggen dat sommige zeldzame soorten planten, insecten en uiteindelijk ook vogels verdwijnen. En dat heeft weer gevolgen voor het specifieke landschap van Gaasterland.
