Project updated with some new species, updated links in project terms

Hi all, if you are curious about a notification about the project terms changing, the changes were these:

1) Updated the terms you are presented with when joining the project to use the correct URLs to the iMap terms of use (https://www.imapinvasives.org/terms-of-use) and public map (https://imapinvasives.natureserve.org/imap/services/page/map.html)

2) Added some species to the species list (mainly fish and other aquatic species: bighead carp, cape-pondweed, didymo, golden algae, etc).

Thank you for your contributing observations!

Added more species

Hi iNaturalists,

If you received an email about this project being changed, it is because I added several species to keep this list more in synch with our Oregon Jurisdiction list on iMapInvasives.natureserve.org.

iNaturalist records are an important source for invasive species records for iMapInvasives. The platform now has a separate iNaturalist snapshot layer showing the most recent 5-years of iNat sightings, and records from this snapshot can be incorporated into email alerts. You are always welcome to sign up for free and check it out at https://imapinvasives.natureserve.org/imap/login.jsp.

Thank you for your sightings!
Lindsey

launch of iMapInvasives 3.0!

Hello everyone,

The iMapInvasives database has greatly benefited from your contributions through iNaturalist, and as an important part of our invasive species network I wanted to invite you all to explore the new iMapInvasives 3.0 which officially launched last week! I also wanted to let you know that I will not be able to upload your iNaturalist sightings to iMapInvasives for some weeks, as the admin upload tools are still in development. If you think you've found a high priority invasive species, you can report it to the Oregon Invasive Species Hotline to get directly in touch with invasive species managers.

iMapInvasives 3.0 is a complete update to the previous platform, and now allows users to report invasive species throughout the US and Canada. The new site is completely responsive to mobile devices so you can peruse data and create records on your smartphone or tablet. Our iMap mobile app is still available for creating records when out of connectivity.

Anyone can peruse the public data in iMap without an account at https://imapinvasives.natureserve.org, but creating a free account unlocks many more features and allows you to create records. If you had an account in the previous version of iMap, you will need to reset your password; please see How to Sign In to iMapInvasives for more guidance.

This is the initial launch of the site, with more features to be launched over the spring and summer including email alerts, queries, and reports. For more information including help documents and FAQs, see imapinvasives.org.

And, of course, keep using iNaturalist if you're happiest making observations here! Your contributions to this project will make their way to iMap in time.

Many thanks,
Lindsey Wise

Launching of the Oregon iMapInvasives Collector project

Hello intrepid iNaturalists!

This is Lindsey Wise, admin for the Oregon iMapInvasives program. iMapInvasives is the hub for invasive species data in Oregon, and I have long relied on iNaturalist as an important source of those sightings. I've been running an iNat project for Oregon invasives for several years, but with a traditional project it is just unfeasible to manually add the THOUSANDS of sightings you all are reporting!

With the new option of Collector projects, I can ask iNaturalist to automatically pull those invasive species reports into this project, where I can more easily find your reports that Oregon's resource managers and researchers need to help them understand and respond to invasive species.

While I manually add the several hundred taxa that Oregon iMapInvasives tracks to the Collector, there will be a transition period where both projects are up and running. And I do want to test out how these Collector projects differ between the traditional one. But for now, the plan is to steadily build up this Collector project and transition away from the traditional one.

Thank you for your sightings and your participation in this great iNaturalist community!

-Lindsey
