Fall Harvest - iNat Challenge

Days are shortening and cooling, squirrels are gathering nuts, raccoon and other animals are fattening up, and bees and wasps are harvesting nectar and pollen from the last blooming asters and goldenrods of the year. Fall has finally arrived! And of course, this means that winter is right around the corner. Join us at Runge this fall as we observe animals preparing for winter during this season's Fall Harvest - Observation Challenge. Observe four different species of fruits or nuts (persimmons, acorns, walnuts, etc.) and/or animals preparing for winter (jays and squirrels collecting acorns, feeding pollinators, etc.) using the iNaturalist app or website, then add those observations to the "Runge Biodiversity Project" before uploading. Afterwards, stop at the front desk of the nature center to receive a free field guide, an Audubon Bird Call, and a "Socialize with a Snake" ticket, which can be redeemed at the front desk for the opportunity to meet and hold one of Runge's education snakes. Get out, explore, and observe this fall!

Thank you to all who made observations during the summer. July, August, and September were all record breaking months with 32 observers making over 800 observations, while adding another 100 species to the project. Keep up the good work making observation at Runge using iNaturalist. Don't forget to share your favorite observation and explore ours using Instagram - #RungeBiodiversityProject
