I was told that Aliso also means sycamore. iNaturalist agrees; if you search "aliso" you get Platanus racemosa. However when I look it up in a Spanish dictionary, it says alder! I guess we have those in creeks too. The world features in place names in Orange County: Aliso Viejo, Aliso Woods, Aliso creek.
