@catullus, here's the drafted change. Additional work will be required for H. grandiflora and H. parviflora, but the other species should transfer into Bletia via this swap alone.

@bouteloua, should I commit this change with moving children to output? I assume that all species and infraspecies contained within Hexalectris will be transferred to Bletia (as intended), but wish to run this by you before committing. I did read the note on how this can make a mess, and I aim to make this change as clean as possible.

@afid, this may be of interest to you as well.

Now that I think about it, would it be best to transfer H. grandiflora and H. parviflora to Bletia before this change goes live? I don't want any conflicts with existing Bletia species that have the same specific epithets.

Hi - just cleared my notifications backlog and don't have an opportunity to look deeper into the issue, please proceed without me!

Sorry @arethusa , I've been offline for a bit. Would you mind sending the paper to me?

And yes, I think doing H. grandiflora and H. parviflora first is probably the way to go. I could do that, if you'd like.

That'd be great @catullus. I have to sign off now, because I need to finish packing for the big orchid trip tomorrow. We'll be heading over to NJ to look for some rare species!

Before this taxon swap is committed, would it be worthwhile/scientifically acceptable to consider swapping genus Hexalectris to section Hexalectris, rather than genus Bletia?

I believe Sosa & Chase found that Hexalectris was truly embedded within Bletia, so I'm not sure if it even qualifies as a section or subgenus. If it does, we might want to find out what other sections/subgenera are contained within Hexalectris before adding it. Also, feel free to commit my swap (if you can from your end) once H. grandiflora and H. parviflora have been changed.

Alright, I've committed the changes for H. grandiflora and H. parviflora. I just think if we want to create a section/subgenus, we should hold off on committing this swap, since if we move everything to Bletia and later decide to create a section/subgenus, we'd need to individually change the parent taxon for every single former Hexalectris (at least that's how I understand how iNat works), whereas right now we could change it in one fell swoop.

Back from NJ. I'm not too keen on making a section/subgenus for Hexalectris. Aside from not being formally proposed, I doubt it would make identification much easier since many of those species occur out of range for Bletia anyway. However, I wouldn't oppose adding a section/subgenus if you think that's the right way to go.

I feel like most people using published references/guides aren't going to realize that Hexalectris is now part of Bletia and might get confused (the same way why people sometimes express confusion at the former Piperias). But yes, it hasn't been formally proposed.
