These observations are made with mixed joy and sadness, for while so many species still exist for us to appreciate, we here are like writers of epitaphs and mourners at funerals as we peer through binoculars and camera lenses at species doomed by our own actions. Let us never forget that we are to bear witness to crimes and tragedies.
