Elk Scat

Date: October 9, 201
Location: Near Mammoth Creek by Brian Head, Utah
Directions: Head East out of Cedar City, Utah up highway 14. Travel up the canyon about 17 miles and turn left towards Cedar Breaks. Travel until fork and turn left heading perpendicular to Brian Head. Head a few more miles down the road.
Habitat: The terrain was in the middle of a burn area from the Brian Head fire. The area was treated prior to the fire so the underbrush is minor. We found ourselves in a meadow type area when we came across the scat. It was a little more green in this area.
Observers: Jamie Smith, Lyndsay Rodriguez, Mariah Porter
Time of Day: 3:50 pm
Amount of Time: 5 minutes
Wind: 1 on Beaufort scale
Temperature: 39 degrees Fahrenheit
Sky Condition: Partly Cloudy
Elevation: 9,000 feet
Species List: Elk
Comments: I am fairly certain that this scat belongs to an elk. The way the scat clumped seemed like a positive sign to indicate that it is in fact elk scat.
