One of two seen washed up on the beach today. This one was quite large, 25-30mm but spent most of its time curled up - even after I transferred it into a bit of water.

Not completely sure about this one which was observed at extreme low tide under a rock. It measured only about 10-12mm in length, so if it is P. imperialis, its only a baby. All other ones I’ve ever seen have been at least 40mm+

An old photo taken back in 1993. Approx 15-20m deep, off the Cavalli Islands, Northland. Not a good photo, as I was using an old camera without a viewfinder for macro work - hence the framing was a bit off.

A single valve (the flat one) washed up on the high tide line. No signs of any more of this very fragile species. The other valve is quite inflated and round.

Washed up on the tide line. Probably reevei, but has a very low spire compared to the other shells I’ve seen lately. May be A. nomotoi?
