This specimen was brought to me by a mushroom club member to identify on a foray I hosted. It was found growing among conifers after a week of cool rainy weather. At first I thought it was a type of Polyporus or Cerioporus until I smelled it. It has that pleasant sweet smell associated with occidentalis. I will update with more info soon.

I found this specimen growing in a mixed old growth conifer and deciduous forest. This was found at the base of an old fir tree. The forest was burned in a fire in fall of 2020 and the soil at this spot was still mostly exposed. The cap is beige in color, broadly convex with a moderate indent, 2cm in diameter and the margin is decurved. The gills are decurrent with 3 tiers of lamellulae and appear wavy. The spores are white, nearly round to ellipsoid and smooth with what appears to be an oil droplet inside and measure from 2-4 microns. The stem is hollow, 3cm long, 0.2cm thick towards the cap and 0.3cm at the base with rhizoids extending out.

I found these specimens growing at 800ft elevation in an old growth mixed conifer and deciduous forest. These were growing out of an old slash pile from an old thinning operation that burned in a forest fire in 2020. Most specimens were old, however one small one was fairly fresh.

This could be Geopyxis rehmii and I will update if able to determine via microscopy. These specimens were found growing in a mixed old growth fir and deciduous forest. This area burned fall of 2020 and found these in the second season of the fire. These cup-like fungi are ubiquitous throughout the burned area. I did not observe this species fruiting last year. Cup size ranged from 0.2-1cm in diameter, thin and brittle. No stem is apparent and smells strongly of sulphur.

I found these specimens growing on a downed deciduous tree along with Schizophyllum commune. This was in a mixed old growth conifer and deciduous forest that was burned in a fire fall of 2020. The elevation is around 400ft. The average cap size 1.5cm wide and 1.3cm deep, is convex/hemispheric. The gills have several lamellulae are tightly spaced and adnate to slightly decurrent. The gills were a lighter color then turned a rusty brown with age. The stem is small approximately 0.2cm or long and 0.1cm wide.

I found these specimens growing in a mix conifer and deciduous old growth forest second season after a forest fire. These were found in an old slash pile from a thinning operation that burned during a forest fire. These orange cup-like fungi range from 0.2-1.7cm in diameter. The margins are covered in small hair-like fibers that resemble eyelashes.

This specimen was found in a mix conifer and deciduous forest at around 500ft elevation. It was growing on a log just above the ground. The margin of the largest specimen has a red hue and looked slightly varnished. The cap is 4.5cm wide by 2cm deep, dark grey to charcoal grey, rough, with a whitish grey crust on top. The hymenium surface is white with small, round pores that turned a pinkish buff with age. The pores are around 0.2-0.3cm long with approximately 3-4 pores per mm. The flesh is 0.2cm thick and looks layered I forgot to check the color fresh, but has a pinkish buff color with age. It has a very pleasant, sweet, fungal smell reminiscent of Bondarzewia occidentalis. I am attempting to collect spores to perform some microscopy and will update if successful.

I found these specimens growing in a second year burn in an old logging slash pile that was burned in a forest fire. There is a lot of charred wood, ash and charcoal like a giant fire pit with moss covering the majority of the soil surface. Soil temperature was around 48 degrees Fahrenheit. The caps are moderately indented, radially fibrillose with an incurved margin and measured from 0.5cm to 1cm with a slight smell that I cannot describe. The gills are white, decurrent and wavy with what looks like 3 lamellulae. The stem is hollow with whitish tissue (pith), measures from 1cm up to 3cm long and 0.2cm thick. Growing solitary, but gregarious. Elevation is approximately 800ft in an old growth mix conifer and deciduous forest that was burned in late summer 2020. I found this growing along with Geopyxis vulcanalis. Attempting to collect spores to do some microscopy and will update if successful.

I found this growing on lumber used to construct a foot path over a creek. I forgot to take pictures before grabbing a sample and taking it home. It dried out a bit and lost most color. This specimen is 2.5cm long, 1.3cm wide and 1cm thick. Haze maze like erratic large pores that resembles gills. Found in a mixed conifer forest after a week of rainy days at 1,400 feet elevation with a temperature range of 56-33 degrees Fahrenheit. I may try to section for microscopy.

This mushrooms was found next to a gravel walking path growing among some moss in the soil after a week of rainy days in a mix conifer forest. Temperature range 56-33 degrees Fahrenheit and 1,400 ft elevation. Cap 3cm long, deeply indented, smooth to slightly granular with semi translucent margins. The gills are decurrent with 3 lamellulae lengths. The stem is 2.5cm long, partially hollow, slightly larger at base and similar color to cap. Smell is nondescript. Will update with spore information if able to collect a sample for microscopy.

Genus Clitocybe seems to be the best fit for this mushroom given the current info I have.

Crust like small pored fungi, color brown to slightly rusty. There are approximately 5-6 pores per mm with a pore length of 2-4 mm with an irregular pore shape. Found growing on a dead standing deciduous tree in a mix of oak and maple with some willows. Flesh is very hard, woody and well attached to the tree. No distinct odor. Trying to get a spore print to do some microscopy and will update with pictures, description and measurements if successful. I am torn between Fuscoporia ferruginosa and Fomitiporia punctata.
