Growing on roadside soil, mixed collection with Bryum argenteum and a second Bryum-like species. This species has longer 1.9-mm leaves and mid-leaf cells measuring about 16 microns and with numerous low papillae. The basal cells appear sharply differentiated and measure about 30 microns wide and are variable in length. Costa appears to have a triangular central hydroid. This keys tentatively to S. princeps...

Growing on roadside soil, mixed collection with Bryum argenteum and a Syntrichia-like acrocarp. This species has 1-mm gametophytes and 0.6-cm leaves. The leaves appear to be julaceous when both dry and wet? The mid leaf cells are rectangular and about 40 x 16 microns, the basal cells are about 26 x 16 microns, the costa is percurrent and there are no papillae seen. Seems to be one of the Bryaceae, but had a hard time keying this out in Norris and Shevock.
