Found in the afternoon moving at the back of the Eromanga Natural History Museum. A very attractive little fellow.
I have amended the description
to Ringed Brown Snake, as I now can see two faded black rings near the rear section. I originally thought it was an Unbanded Shovel Nose snake...

VERY HANDSOME LITTLE GUYS! Venturing into my very wet rainforest I found this rather small and bedraggled colony of fruits. Many had stalled but quite a number have managed to complete their life cycle.
This looked like a new one for me but have had it confirmed as Physarum melleum. I have found a very yellow version of this before that is also uploaded here on iNat. They do look completely different.
This has been a very rewarding series of images to complete as I think it is a very photogenic subject! Just love the tan / orange hues!

VERY RARE FUNGI FOR AUSTRALIA. I found this in 2017 in Bruxner Park Rainforest and then again last Thursday in my own garden. To my knowledge the first observation was in 1908 in the Daintree and then Ian Dodd found it last year near Kempsey NSW. That makes 4 times.
It has been identified as Endocalyx melanoxanthus var. melanoxanthus
My two observations have been after continuous rain for an extended period, and I wonder if this was the case back in 1908 in the Daintree rainforest too?
I took some down to Michael Priest over the weekend and he was telling me recent DNA work has it now placed in the Xylaria family.
It is a strange little critter though!
These images show its strange nature with its extremely vulnerable outer sheath, that splits and crumbles as it pushes upwards from its Bangalow Palm substrate.
On close examination, it almost looks like this sheath is also made up of spore material held together by very thin fibrous strands.
The smaller fruit is 1.2mm tall and the larger one is around 1.8mm.

Quite an interesting journey here... I collected Gidgee Tree remnats from around the current Tip (refuse dump) in Nov 2020. I wrapped them in plastic and then back in my home town placed bark samples in my Slimarium in July 2021. These fruits grew within one week. I tracked their evolution and it has been a collaboration of minds across the globe who have finally circled to Physarum decipiens. this has been an extraordinary exercise and I have some other myxos to add to my desert tally...

Pretty much a rare occurrence in Australia. I returned to the site and found remnants of previous fruitings to ensure there was enough material for microscopy. See all images
