This organism was found outside on a neighborhood sidewalk. “Gastropods have a muscular foot which is used for "creeping" locomotion in most species. Most gastropods have a well-developed head that includes eyes, 1-2 pairs of tentacles, and a concentration of nervous tissue (ganglion)” (https://animaldiversity.org/accounts/Gastropoda/).The body was a grey-brown color, with slimy, textured skin and two antenna-like structures on the head. The shell was spiral-shaped brown covering. The whole organism was about 1.25 inches. Could not spot any reproductive features.

This organism was found in Lettuce Lake Park. It has an oval body covered in white feathers and two wings on its sides; along with a long, orange beak and two long, orange legs. “Feathers are the defining characteristic of Aves, found on every living species of bird and no other class of animal. Feathers are made of keratin, the same substance that forms hair and nails in other animals and are highly modified scales” (https://animals.mom.me/5-major-characteristics-birds-5792.html). It was found strolling through the waters of Lettuce Lake. Could not spot any reproductive structures on it.

This organism has a light, mint green color. It grows attached to a tree, with a leaf-like appearance.. “A lichen looks like a single organism, but is actually a symbiotic relationship between different organisms” (https://www.nybg.org/bsci/lichens/). I found this organism in Lettuce Lake Park. The large portion was about 5 inches long from top to bottom and about 1.5 inches wide. It had an irregular shape with a lot of curves and leaf-like edges. The white, crusty areas are the reproductive structures, known as soridia.

This fern was observed in Lettuce Lake Park in a sandy ground area. The fern has green leaves and a brown stalk. It was about a foot and a half tall. The Encyclopædia Britannica states that ferns are “nonflowering vascular plants that possess true roots, stems, and complex leaves and that reproduce by spores” (https://www.britannica.com/plant/fern). This seedless vascular plant has to reproduce through spores due to there lack of flowers and seeds.

This moss was very green in color, stretching over the length of the bottom of the tree. It projected off the tree by a one to two centimeters. The moss had a a lot of stem and leaflike structures. Mosses are described as organisms that “break down exposed substrata, releasing nutrients for the use of more complex plants that succeed them and aid in soil erosion control by providing surface cover and absorbing water” (https://www.britannica.com/plant/moss-plant). This nonvascular seedless plant was found on the USF Tampa campus, in front of the Pollo Tropical.
