Volunteers rally to save centuries-old oak trees in Channel Islands National Park.

McEachern and a team of volunteers and other researchers have anchored sausage-shaped rolls of natural fibers along the slopes. About 3,000 plants were put in the ground, some alongside those wattles and nearly thigh-high fog catchers.
The idea was to slow erosion, trap sediment and try to start restoring the chaparral forest. And, it has started to work.
